Invest. Don’t Spend.
You always spend more money than you planned so it might as well be on the outcome you want to get.
Going to the doctor for pain will cost you more time, energy, effort, and money than you ever thought you’d spend and buy you an outcome that will never justify what you spent. Meds, injections, MRI’s, and Surgery do not solve the root problem and are not real solutions – but are prescribed first and most often anyway. Chasing pain will ensure you spend your entire deductible (average $4000), most or all of your out of pocket maximum (average $12000), and only get a partial solution. The problem is you are spending for healthcare and not investing in your health. Invest in your health and it will pay dividends. Or keep spending, depleting your savings with your deductible every year, and not have anything to show for it.
Find someone who can teach you how to take care of yourself and get to the root of the problem. Don’t be afraid to pay that person real money to help YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM and understand how to keep solving your own problems. When you can’t do it on your own seek out a professional who can take you to the next level. This is not a cost or expense. It is an investment. An investment in your own health, wellbeing, and quality of life. Do your homework and seek out the best person to help you get what you need.
Making Decisions Based on The Wrong Things
Don’t invest in your health and health services based on insurance coverage. Invest in yourself based on perceived value of the service, the ability someone has to help you get what you want and reach your desired outcome, and whether or not that person is the type of person you want to do business with. Thats how you buy everything else.
Insurance is simply the lowest amount you will pay each month for the opportunity to spend more money (your deductible and OOP Max). It will always be an expense. It does not help you get what you need and in many cases pushes you to a high volume provider who is so strapped for time that they cant even give you what you need even if they wanted to.
If you pay for the right people to help you conservatively you might spend more money today. But you will save infinitely tomorrow. And your deductible will be there waiting for you if and when you actually need surgery. Not because it was recommended by a surgeon because meds didn’t work and an MRI said you were broken… but because you have done everything in your power to solve the problem conservatively and surgery has become the legitimate next step.
The Cherry On Top:
Your outcome will be far superior because you already addressed the root causes of the problem and anatomy is that last piece to correct to restore full pain free function. You can see how correcting anatomy first is the wrong play because you neglect the deeper issues that created the anatomy problem in the place.
One of the first and biggest steps in getting better healthcare, better health, and a higher quality of life is to stop making decisions based on what your insurance wants and thinks is important and start making health decisions based on what you want and think is important.
One Line Summary:
You always spend more money than you planned so spend your money with someone who can help you get exactly what you want and need.
